1) Musical Instrument Museum

Also known at The MIM, the Musical Instrument Museum is a world class museum in North Phoenix showcasing musical instruments from around the world in 75,000 square feet of exhibition space.  The MIM has a 299-seat music theater with a wide range of classic, jazz, world, and contemporary music being featured regularly.  A gourmet cafe, library, hands-on instrument room, and a museum store with a wide selection of music related gifts.  The museum is located at 4725 E. Mayo Blvd. in Phoenix.  For further information contact:  480-478-6000.

2)  Phoenix Children’s Museum

This imaginative museum is fun, fun, fun!  Lots of hands-on things to do and amazing things to see and do everywhere such as the high wire bicycle ride over the lobby and the noodle forest.  Better than the average children’s museum, there is something for everyone – things to delight both adults and children.  The museum is located at 215 N. 7th Street in Phoenix.  For further information contact:  602.253.0501.

3) Mystery Castle

This unusual piece of architecture, built from recycled bottles, granite and bricks in 1930, is a tribute from a father to his daughter. Located near South Mountain, you may take tours through the castle.  Largely constructed of native stone, the 8,000-square-foot castle contains 13 fireplaces, 18 rooms and various features of interest.  Southwestern antiques furnish this unique facility.  Due to the nature of the building materials, Mystery Castle is an eclectic structure that gives the appearance of having always been part of the desert landscape.  Native rock and abandoned artifacts from around the region make the architectural style difficult to classify. There are floating staircases of stone and many of the recycled boulders contain original hieroglyphics from the desert’s indigenous people.  For more information contact:  (602) 268-1581.

4)  Enchanted Island

Located at Encanto Park, this oasis is rightfully named.  Catering to ages 2-10, the island is surrounded by ducks, swans and fish. Listen to the oohs and aahs and you’ll hear how happy the kids are.  Rides include a train, carousel, parachutes and others guaranteed to create a fun-filled adventure.  Prices are reasonable and all-day passes are available, depending on height.  For further information contact:  602 254 1200.

5)  Camelback Mountain

Towering 1,400 feet, this mountain features the unmistakable shape of a camel’s hump.  North trailhead offers sheer red cliffs rising 200 feet vertically in some areas, which beckon rock climbers.  Facilities are limited at the Echo Canyon Recreation Area with only a trailhead water fountain, an interpretive ramada and trails.  Desert wildlife is abundant here; you may see small animals such as snakes, lizards and Harris Antelope Squirrels as well as a variety of birds.  Admission is free.  The mountain is located at 5700 N Echo Canyon Parkway.  For further information contact:  602 256 3220.

6)  Phoenix Art Museum

The Southwest’s premier destination for world-class visual arts.  Popular international exhibitions are shown along side the Museum’s outstanding collection of more than 18,000 works of American, Asian, European, Latin American, Western American, modern and contemporary art, and fashion design.  A vibrant destination for over fifty years, Phoenix Art Museum presents festivals, live performances, independent art films and educational programs that enlighten, entertain and stimulate.  For further information contact:  The Southwest’s premier destination for world-class visual arts.
